Spring 2009
Portrait Painting
This class teaches the fundamentals of painting the head in oil. Students will paint the model from life in 4 sessions. Beginning with a toned canvas, students will execute a careful drawing and subsequently build up the structure of the head from darks to lights. Emphasis is on understanding the structure of the head and learning to mix colors to create realistic and harmonious flesh tones. The class will begin with a demonstration of the alla prima technique, used by John Singer Sargent and handed down through generations of atelier painters and teachers. Experience with drawing and/or painting preferred.

Open Studio
Capitol Hill Arts Workshop is sponsoring a 4-week figure drawing studio on Saturday afternoons in February 2009. This is an opportunity for artists to work on drawings or paintings in front of the live model in a session without an instructor.
Please bring your own drawing materials. Easels are available.
When: Saturdays 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Cost: $60 for all 4 sessions payable to CHAW or $20/session drop-in.
