Paint with us from your home studio!

In March 2020 at the start of the pandemic, I turned to this online format to offer us all a chance to paint together, to be connected, and to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.

This class continues as a weekly conversation and a review of the weekly painting exercises and paintings in process.

This class meets weekly for 3 hours via video conference. We discuss each artist’s work from the previous week and go into deeper discussions of particular painting problems and questions.

Currently we are doing an exploration of color mixing, creating color charts and flower portraits to learn how to create color harmony and unity within our paintings.

Exercises include creating a set of color charts and creating single-session studies of flowers and/or seasonal fruits (say, figs). These small paintings execute skill at drawing, seeing value, seeing color, executing with accuracy in a small span of time.

Students are encouraged to bring to discussion the thorny problems of painting, such as how to paint glass, how to create transparency, how to make an area come forward or recede. These issues often become the basis for live instructor demonstrations or additional videos.

I hope you join us online!

Previous experience in drawing and painting preferred but not required.
